The Alberta Producer Accelerator (APA) is a multi-cohort professional development initiative designed to strengthen Alberta’s screen-based industry by equipping producers and filmmakers with the tools, knowledge, and connections to move their projects forward.

Program Overview

Are you an emerging filmmaker ready to take your career to the next level?

The APA Emerging Filmmaker Program is a free, intensive professional development experience that supports Alberta-based filmmakers looking to advance their projects and expand their networks.

Through expert-led sessions, one-on-one mentorship, and guided industry insights, participants will gain the practical skills and strategic understanding needed to elevate their projects, strengthen their business acumen, and position their work for success within Alberta’s growing film industry.

This program is proudly supported by Alberta Film, the City of Calgary, the Calgary Film Commission, the Edmonton Screen Industries Office, and PrairiesCan, and is committed to empowering the next generation of Alberta filmmakers.

Who Should Apply

This program is ideal for filmmakers who:

Own a registered business in Alberta.
Have a film project currently in active development.
Are passionate about growing their careers and building sustainable pathways in production.
Are committed to fostering an inclusive, culturally respectful, and collaborative creative environment.
Can commit to attending virtual classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 – 6:30 PM MT / 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET, running November 6 – January 15 (with a break during the December holidays).

Program Components

One-on-One Mentorship

Up to 4 hours of personalized mentorship with established industry professionals.

Industry Training

Twice-weekly virtual classes led by top Canadian and international film experts.

Community Building

Reinforce a vibrant community of Alberta filmmakers and collaborators through shared learning and connection.
